Keep Campus Safe, Stop The Spread.

By working together, students, University staff and the Students' Union can help keep campus safe. Rest assured that your Students' Union and University are taking student safety seriously; we're following all the guidelines when it comes to COVID-19, and we're asking students to do the same!

Contacting Your Students' Union.

You'll find Union staff on campus for our Welcome events, but our offices are currently closed. We're planning to reopen them soon using an appointment system - details coming soon. Until then, you can contact us at union@uwtsd.ac.uk or on social.

Protect yourself and others from COVID-19.

To make things clear, we've put together a list of best practices to keep yourself and others safe. It's important to remember that the advice and guidance around COVID-19 can change quickly, and rules may vary locally and nationally. That is why we are asking students to follow the latest guidance issued by the government, university and union.

  • Keep 2 meters apart from others.
  • Wash your hands regularly.
  • Keep hand sanitiser with you.
  • Wear your face mask.
  • Follow all instructional signage.
  • Follow all guidance given by university and union staff.
  • If you have returned from abroad, or you are an international student, you may need to self-isolate upon arrival. Please see the latest government advice.
  • If you develop symptoms before a union event, do not attend.
  • If you develop symptoms after attending a union event, tell us immediately: union@uwtsd.ac.uk - we're part of the Test, Trace, Protect scheme.
  • If you develop symptoms before or after attending university, contact the Hwb immediately: hwb@uwtsd.ac.uk.
  • If you have symptoms, your entire household will need to self-isolate.

What we're doing

To help keep everyone safe, we've implemented the following safety measures;

  • Staff may be wearing face coverings.
  • You'll find hand sanitizer and signage reminding you to clean your hands.
  • You must sign up to the majority of our Welcome events in advance for Test, Trace, Protect.
  • We've installed markers on the floor to help you maintain social distancing.
  • We're operating a one-way system and wherever possible, there will be one way in and one way out.
  • There's a limit to the number of people who can use a space at any one time.
  • Installed signage indicating that we operate under Welsh Government COVID guidelines (particularly in relation to Bars/Café).
  • Operating table service in Y Lloft and Old Bar. You'll place orders via an app.
  • Not all of our staff will be on campus, an appointment system may be in operation and you may be asked to meet in a separate room with a Perspex glass separation screen.
  • Food can only be consumed in designated areas.
  • Cleaning materials will be provided in communally used rooms.
  • Our bars are all seated.
  • Our toilets are one in one out.

Events & Bars

The bar needs to be safe for you and our staff. We are working hard to put in place measures to ensure everyone’s safety. In order to conform with the new Government COVID rules, we have had to make some changes.

  • Tables will seat up to a maximum of 6 people from the same household (flat).
  • Students from off-campus can come to the bar but they must arrive in a household and observe social distancing.
  • Don’t put others at risk if you have COVID Symptoms by coming to the bar.
  • A Track, Trace and Protect system will be in place.
  • We’ll be operating a table service.
  • Social Distancing will be in place.
  • The pool table will be out of action.
  • Toilets will be 1 in, 1 out and will be monitored.
