Main Duties


To be the senior staff member responsible for leading the advice, voice, and student opportunities staff.

To be the senior staff member leading engagement with students from the Birmingham, London, and Cardiff campuses.

To support and empower our student leaders to achieve their objectives.


Principle Accountabilities


  1. Management & Leadership
  1. Be a member of the Senior Management Team
  2. To recruit, train, and performance-manage the Membership Services Team
  3. Set an exemplary standard of management and leadership for the organisation


  1. Student Voice
  1. To manage the democratic functions of the students’ union, ensuring that barriers to participation are removed
  2. Act as Deputy Returning Officer for all students’ union elections
  3. Support the relationship with the university through active reporting on Course Reps and union activity relating to representation


  1. Student Advocacy
  1. To ensure the highest standards of advice is provided to students from the students’ union
  2. Support the reporting of cases to the university and Board of Trustees
  3. Provide enhanced wellbeing support for the Student Voice & Advocacy Co-ordinators due to the nature of their roles


  1. Student Opportunities
  1. Ensure that all policies and practices relating to Student Opportunities are legal, supportive, and follow good practice
  2. Manage the delivery of Sports clubs, Societies, and Volunteering for students
  3. Lead Freshers Fairs and events like Challenge Cup


  1. Membership Engagement
  1. To undertake research into un-engaged student populations and give recommendations to enhance provision
  2. Create and enact a Membership Engagement & Participation Plan to support students to help more students engage with the students’ union, reporting regularly to the Board of Trustees on progress
  3. Be the designated member of staff responsible for delivery of membership services for London, Birmingham, and Cardiff students.


General Duties

  • To support, advise, and assist elected student officers in the achievement of their aims and objectives.
  • To discharge all relevant Health and Safety Responsibilities.
  • To adhere to all relevant Students’ Union Policies and Procedures.
  • To adhere to all relevant UWTSD Policies and Procedures.
  • To be adaptable to change and have an ability to acquire new and relevant skills and knowledge by taking appropriate responsibility for own personal and professional development.
  • To represent the Students’ Union at relevant professional networks, events, and conferences.
  • To support and promote the Students’ Union’s values whilst undertaking duties, demonstrating commitments to equality, bilingualism, sustainability and democracy.
