BA Dance based in Carmarthen is a heavily practical course. Research shows that for dancers to reach their peak/optimal performance levels, supplementary training is needed alongside technique and rehearsal processes and this is heavily encouraged by our tutors. Typically dancers tend to lack in muscular strength and aerobic fitness, hindering peak performance; the most obvious way to increase these are through using the gym. However, currently students on this course do not hold free membership to access the gym - unlike most, if not all, sports courses. We are expected to attend the gym by tutors to enhance our fitness levels, yet also expected to pay by the university to access the facilities our course demands. These hidden costs are not explained when joining the course.

I believe, along with the rest of the students on the course, that the BA Dance course should have free membership to the gym like the Sports degrees to enable us to meet course demands, as well as to increase our personal fitness levels. Being at our peak with fitness will also increase our employability levels in the industry, after the degree.
