Welcome to the Manifesto Tracker - this is the place where you can see what your elected Union Presidents are working on.

Each point is split into three sections - Aims, Objectives, and Updates. Aims and Objectives tell you all about what your Presidents are hoping to achieve, and Updates will give you insight into what's been done so far.

Joint Objectives

Mental Health and Wellbeing

Objectives

  1. To foster an environment where all students feel comfortable accessing the Mental Health and Wellbeing services provided to students. 
  2. Provide more varied wellbeing support to students, and improve awareness and visibility among students of the current wellbeing and mental health support available.

Aims

  1. Identify the barriers and concerns students face when accessing Mental Health and Wellbeing services and make recommendations to the University on how they can improve the service they provide.
    Led by Taya Gibbons
  2. Identify any discrepancies/disparities in the services provided through the Welsh campuses versus those based in IICL and Cardiff.Led by Taya Gibbons
  3. Work with students to understand student perceptions of the well-being support and the methods of communication used. Provide a report with recommendations for the University on this at end of year.Led by Natalie Beard
  4. Work with the well-being team and trial alternative well-being initiatives and report back to the University on the success of these.Led by Natalie Beard
  5. Work with the University to produce a campus-by-campus (and distance) route to well-being maps.Led by Natalie Beard
  6. Investigate with the University the ability to provide safe or quiet spaces on all campuses.Led by Lowri Wilson
  7. Lobby the University to improve the pond area on the campus and develop sensory areas along the well-being walk and other areas of campus.Led by Lowri Wilson

Accommodation

Objectives

  1. To improve the level of student satisfaction in University Accommodation ensuring that clear communication and student safety is at the heart of the provided service.

Aims

  1. Review the system for students to submit and record issues with their accommodation and providing University with recommendations for improvement. Led by Taya Gibbons
  2. Review the system the accommodation team currently uses to directly communicate with students and provide the University with recommendations for improvement. Led by Taya Gibbons
  3. Working with the University to create/start the set up for a University Accommodation Charter 2024 – that outlines the expectations set by the University on communications and standards from the accommodation team. Led by Taya Gibbons
  4. Work with the University to ensure Swansea students have a safe place to live with contracts with partner accommodations that are suitable for their needs. Led by Natalie Beard

Taya's Objectives

Recreational Activity & Sport

Objectives

  1. Improve the University's current recreational and sporting provisions to enhance/complement University life for students. 

Aims

  1. Review current recreational activities offered across the University – with a specific focus on looking at campuses with no sporting provisions available via the University (Swans, CDF, LDN, BHAM.)
  2. Creating different sports strategies to be implemented across the different campuses.

The Cost of Living

Objectives

  1. To continue to advocate for Students in regard to the Cost of Living Crisis.

Aims

  1. Diversify the food bank offering for students of different cultures.
  2. Explore catering options for campuses without catering.
  3. Establish a University and Students’ Union ‘cost of living’ task force to monitor existing initiatives and address the challenges faced by UWTSD students.
  4. Review and make recommendations that increase awareness and improve the understanding of the existing initiatives.
  5. Work with the University to increase awareness of the existing bursaries and scholarships and lobby for changes to the current scholarship and bursary offer.

Supporting the LGBTQ+ Community

Objectives

  1. To foster a culture of understanding and acceptance for students who identify as LGBTQ+ at UWTSD.

Aims

  1. To have optional opt-in pronouns included on Student ID cards and remove the financial charge for name changes. 
  2. To have optional opt-in pronouns included on digital profiles. 
  3. To explore options to introduce an educational module on LGBTQ+ issues accessible to students.

Lowri's Objectives

Supporting Student Parents and Carers

Objectives

  1. Review the support in place for student parents and carers and make recommendations to the University. 

Aims

  1. Research and collate all information about the support that UWTSD offer to Student Parents and Carers to produce a resource.
  2. Explore options to develop a sense of community and peer support for Student Parents and Carers. 
  3. Research other Universities and Students’ Unions to find examples of best practice and present them to university as options.
  4. Lobby the University for improved facilities targeted at Student Parent and Carers ensuring equal access and run a communication campaign highlighting the existing facilities. 
  5. Work with Facilities to develop areas on the campus with student lead designs and activities that are inclusive of student parents and contribute to student wellbeing and the University and Union sustainability agenda.

Therapy Dogs on Campus

Objectives

  1. Improve access for students to therapy dogs.

Aims

  1. Work with the University to trial alternative processes to allow students access to therapy dogs.
  2. Research the impacts of the pet therapy among students. Then lobby the university to include a regular set of sessions with dogs during future academic years with continual review.

Support For Disabled Students 

Objectives

  1. Review the support in place for students with disabilities and make recommendations to the University.

Aims

  1. Work with the University to identify the reasons why there is a low detection rate, the barriers and concerns students face in regards to disability and accessing services and make recommendations to the University on how they can improve the service they provide.
  2. To conduct a review of the ‘Statement of Compensatory Measures’ procedure and present recommendations by the end of the year. To be inclusive of the screening process to results, the support offered during the year and a review process. 
  3. To lobby the University to trial alternative methods to improve the accessibility of module content, review the findings and other evidence and then present a best practice paper by end of the year. 
  4. Lobby the University to improve the physical infrastructure on campus to ensure that all campuses is fully accessible (e.g. chair lifts, automatic doors and ramps.)

Student Employability and Careers

Objectives

  1. Create more accessible job, volunteering and skill development opportunities and explore ways to improve awareness among students of the existing opportunities.

Aims

  1. Work with the University to diversify the opportunities available to students in regard to finding prospects for employment and volunteering. 
  2. Research into UWTSD student perceptions and understanding of the importance and their own employability and career readiness. Build a campaign on findings partnering with the Careers team and Employability working group to address concerns.

Community on the Swansea Campus

Objectives

  1. Build a stronger campus community on the Swansea Campus through events, societies and by connecting students together. 

Aims

  1. Support and promote the creation and maintaining of event, clubs and societies on campus.
  2. Create a Swansea Campus Community plan to be presented ahead of block grant negotiations.
