Welcome back! We hope you’ve all had a great summer break.
We understand that student summers aren’t always about relaxing, with some students finding full-time work or working on their thesis. Whatever you’ve accomplished this summer, we hope this new semester begins on a positive note.
In May, we reintroduced you to our advice service team. Since then, we’ve been continuing to work on projects to ensure that students remain updated and informed on university policies and procedures.
Our academic toolkit is a comprehensive look at all university processes, such as complaints, appeals and extenuating circumstances. It breaks down the steps of each process, as well as providing the contact details for university departments who might be able to provide additional guidance, such as Money Support who can help students with financial hardship and budgeting.
The toolkit is available as a PDF document kitted out with all the information you might need: https://www.uwtsdunion.co.uk/advice/toolkit
Our withdrawing and tuition fees video is an informative overview of student rights and responsibilities when it comes to paying tuition fees, especially for students who are not receiving funding from a student finance provider.

This checklist is available to all students; new or returning! This is your one-stop-shop checklist to make sure you’ve completed all the nitty gritty steps to getting ready to make the most of your studies.
It is also useful if you’ve recently been reinstated from a withdrawal and want to make sure that the university knows you are active, engaged and ready to re-commence with your studies. This includes logging in to your Moodle account, opening your university emails and familiarising yourself with the variety of departments at UWTSD.

Our new Advice Service feedback form is an opportunity for students to voice their thoughts on the advice they have received from our team. If you have received support and advice from our advice team recently, we encourage you to complete our feedback form to let us know what you found valuable and how we can improve.
Here’s what students have been saying:
Even when you’re not juggling academic studies, house viewings can be stressful and confusing. It is important for you to find somewhere that you feel safe and confident in. But we know it’s not easy to remember all the questions you have when you’re put on the spot during a house viewing. Who is the landlord? What furniture is included in the rent? Who is responsible if the fridge breaks down?
To tackle new home nerves, we have put together a handy checklist of everything you need to look for and ask about in potential future homes
Our Advice team has also been busy attending UWTSD campuses to support students during release of results. These pop-ups are a great way for students to ask questions about our advice service and get an idea of what the steps are for university processes.
You can catch us at the next release of results pop-ups in:
