Your Union Membership

Hi there - we're UWTSD Students' Union - but you can call us the SU for short. We're a registered charity where every student at UWTSD is one of our members once they've enrolled.

Your time at university is more than just lectures - and we're a team of staff and student-elected officers committed to helping you make the most of it.

Let's run through the benefits of your Students' Union membership, deep dive into our different departments, and give an overview of membership.

About Us

We’re a student-led charity. We are separate from the uni. Your membership is free and automatic, and you’re one of the newest members of a thousands-strong student community.

We're a team of friendly people - usually dressed in purple and in the company of Dafydd the Dragon - on a mission to help you make the most of your time as a student. We have a few teams at the Union - Opportunities, Voice, Advice, Venues (and Design & Comms, who are writing this) - and we'll run through what each one does and why you'd want to know them.

Presidents

You might not know it, but we're not a part of the university - we're a separate organisation that works with them for the good of all UWTSD students. We are a student-led charity led by a team of student-elect Presidents - your presidents this year are Maria, Rhobyn, and Natalie.

Opportunities

Bringing the fun is our Opportunities team. Your time as a student is more than just lectures, and as a member, you can get involved in lots of different activities, including joining or starting clubs and societies around a common interest or passion. You can also attend our events (including the official Welcome), have awesome experiences with Give It A Go and develop your skills and knowledge with Skills Week.

Voice

Our Voice team is passionate about ensuring student thoughts and opinions are fed back to the people who need to hear them. They manage our student representatives (will you become one for 2024/25?), look after our Big Ideas platform, and are in charge of all things student elections.

Advice

We all need help at some point - as a member, you can use our advice service. It’s free, independent, and confidential. We want to empower you to make the decisions that are right for you.

Venues

You can come to our bars, clubs, and venues. We have Y Llofft and Y Clwb in Carmarthen and Old Bar and Xtension in Lampeter. Our student spaces and venues are great places to chill out, catch up with friends, play games, watch TV, and party the night away.

Design & Comms

And last, but no means least is Design & Comms - working with all the other teams to spread the word to as many people as possible. It's usually us writing the socials and emails - feel free to say Hi.
