This is your Freshers

Freshers at UWTSD - it's a choc-a-block line-up of official events run by us, your Students' Union, to get you settled into uni life, making friends, and living it up in no time! It's inspired by space and aliens to celebrate your arrival at UWTSD - so embrace the weirdness 🛸

Intro time - we're your Students' Union - but you can call us the SU for short. We're on a mission to help you make the most of your time at uni. Visit our Greetings webpage for a deep dive into what we're all about.

It starts with Freshers Fair

Our Freshers Fairs are a line-up highlight. Whether you're a first-year or a returning student, get to know what's happening around campus, join clubs and societies, meet local businesses, enjoy the activities and games, and collect all the freebies.

Freshers Line-up

This is your official Freshers. Prepare to blast off with a week jam-packed with events and extraterrestrial excitement. Each landing site campus has its own line-up of events - discover your line-up below.

Think Freshers isn't for you? Think again! We've got something for everyone - from big nights out to chilled-out get-togethers, and most of our events are free too. Check out your campus line-up below. Book your place, and start making the most of the start of university.

Message from your Presidents

Hey there, it's Gwyn, Rainna, and Jen here - and together, we're your Presidents for 2025/26. We're excited to meet you all and work with you to make the student experience at UWTSD the best it can be. We cannot wait for Freshers - it's one of our favourite times of the year. Check out the events, and we'll see you later in September.

What to expect

Unforgettable memories, dancing until the early hours, chilled times vibing, laughing so much your stomach hurts, making lifelong friends - it all starts now. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so rather than go on and on, check out our Freshers photo album to see what we've done before.

We're the official Freshers

As the students' union for UWTSD, we run the official Freshers - but why does this matter? We put your student experience first, whereas others put profit first. We want to make sure you have the best welcome to student life possible; we've compared our official events against the unofficial ones below.

Official
Events 👽

  • Chance to meet your fellow students
  • Go to the official Freshers Fair
  • Get to know your campus
  • Students' safety is a priority

Unofficial
Events 🤮

  • Often expensive and over-hyped
  • Usually poor value for money
  • You'll most likely meet fewer new students
  • Usually open to anyone and everyone
  • Profits most likely go to the business

We can't wait to meet you

This has to be our favourite time of the year - all the energy and excitement, meeting the new faces and catching up with the returning ones - we cannot wait for Weclome. Until then, give us a follow on Instagram and TikTok, and feel free to drop us a comment or message.

Frequently Asked Questions

Whether this is your first or final time, you may have questions about Freshers. We've put together answers to commonly asked questions. Don't fret if you can't find your answer - drop us an email at union@uwtsd.ac.uk or DM us on Instagram, and a team member will get back to you.

How do I attend an event?

Some events you can just turn to and others you'll need to book a ticket for - visit the event's webpage to see if you need to book a ticket.

I'm a continuing student, can I come?

Yes, you can! Freshers events are for all UWTSD students - whether you're in your first year or your last.

Do I need to sign up for an event with a student email?

No, you don't. You can use any email, but we may ask to see proof of student status - this can be your student card.

I can't sign up for an event - the website's not working

Don't worry, just drop us an email at union@uwtsd.ac.uk and we'll get it sorted.

I have accessibility requirements - can I still come?

We aim to make all our events as inclusive as possible. If you have any questions or concerns about an event and your needs, please email union@uwtsd.ac.uk.
