Hi, we're your Students' Union 👋 - the people in purple here to help you have the best time at uni. From application to graduation, we are right next to you for your whole student journey at UWTSD!
Think of us as your friend who's been there and done that. The person you can turn to in a heartbeat to feel empowered, inspired, entertained, or, if you ever need a helping hand.
You're already a member! Every enrolled student is automatically a member of the SU for free, and your membership is bursting with potential - let's go through it now!
Brush up and speak up
You'll have the chance to upskill with free training, to speak up for students by becoming an official representative, and to vote in our elections.
Life outside lectures
Enjoy the fun and social side of student life by exploring your passions and interests with our clubs and societies, or live it up alongside your fellow students at our events.
We promise to keep things real
We'll treat you as an equal: we're here to listen, not to judge, and tell you how it is - whether you have an idea or need some advice.

Every year, you have the chance to vote on students who become the official student Presidents - who help lead our work and represent you to the university.

Okay, that was a lot of information to take in. Here's a list of the key things to know.
- We are NOT a university department - we're an independent charity here to help every UWTSD student.
- Your SU membership is free and automatic once you've enrolled at UWTSD.

From application to graduation, we are right next to you
Put simply, a students' union is about people. It's made up of students, officers picked by students, and a staff team - all committed and contributing to make student life at UWTSD the best it can be. We have a few teams at the Union - Opportunities, Voice, Advice, Venues (and Design & Comms, who are writing this) - and we'll run through what each one does and why you'd want to know them.
Presidents
You might not know it, but we're not a part of the university - we're a separate organisation that works with them for the good of all UWTSD students - we are a student-led charity led by a team of student-elected Presidents.
Opportunities
Bringing the fun is our Opportunities team. Your time as a student is more than just lectures, and as a member, you can get involved in lots of different activities, including joining or starting clubs and societies around a common interest or passion. You can also attend our events (including the official Welcome), have awesome experiences with Give It A Go, and develop your skills and knowledge with Skills Week.
Voice
Our Voice team is passionate about ensuring student thoughts and opinions are fed back to the people who need to hear them. They manage our student representatives (will you become one?), look after our Big Ideas platform, and are in charge of all things student elections.
Advice
We all need help at some point - as a member, you can use our advice service. It’s free, independent, and confidential. We want to empower you to make the decisions that are right for you.
Venues
You can come to our bars, clubs, and venues. Our student spaces and venues are great places to chill out, catch up with friends, play games, watch TV, and party the night away.
Design & Comms
And last, but no means least is Design & Comms - working with all the other teams to spread the word to as many people as possible. It's usually us writing the socials and emails - feel free to say Hi.
