Friday 15-10-2021 - 09:00

The tastiest way to discover a different culture is in the kitchen. We’re sharing an iconic African or Caribbean recipe every week in October for Black History Month. Why not give this one a try?

Have a recommendation? Tried the below recipe? We’d love to hear from you on our socials @UWTSDUnion #FoodFridays.

This week we’re sharing a recipe for the famous Jamaican dish, Jerk chicken.

If you’re a fan of spice and are yet to experience the spicy and smoky flavours of Jerk Chicken (or Jerk anything), we recommend you plan to give it a try!

This recipe from cookItonce.com promises an authentic result and includes an extra Scotch Bonnet sauce to drizzle on top. This one is a little bit of a time commitment, and you’ll need to stock up with spices to get it right, but we’re sure it’ll be worth it in the end.

Origin

Enslaved Africans who escaped their Spanish captors, introduced African meat cooking techniques to Jamaica which were combined with native ingredients and seasonings used by the Arawak Indians.
