Go Green Week

Monday 08-05-2023 - 15:25

We brought you a bunch of workshops and talks to teach you some awesome tips and tricks to help you live a more sustainable lifestyle.

We're looked at everything from growing your own food with limited room, to cutting down your plastic use when preserving food.

Whether you're a sustainability pro or just starting out, this week had something for everyone!

Workshops:
Toolbox Talk & Flower Planting – Tuesday 2 May @ 12pm

Students joined the Go Green Week team planting plants on the Lampeter Campus with the wellbeing team. This was a great opportunity to destress and take a break from university work whilst helping improve the Lampeter environment.

Trip to the National Botanical Gardens of Wales – Wednesday 3 May @ 9am

Go Green Week teamed up with Give It A Go to take you on a trip to the National Botanical Garden of Wales; students spent the day taking in the magnificent nature whilst walking through the beautiful gardens.

Drop Spinning Workshop - Thursday 4 May @ 12.30pm

Wool has value and can be used in many sustainable ways, not just in the traditional use of textiles but also in horticulture, agriculture and construction.

Students joinus us with our Tir Glas intern, Debby, to learn how to hand card wool into rolags and learning how to turn them into yarn.

Dirty Pot Eco Dyeing Workshop – Thursday 4 May @ 2.30pm

There's no need to buy new clothes when you can upcycle what you already have. Dyeing with plants doesn’t always require a toxic mordent such as alum sulphate.

Students joined our interns to learn how we can dye a range of materials in an eco-friendly way.

Windowbox Herbs Workshop – Friday 5 May @ 11.30am

Who says you need to have a garden to grow your own food?

This workshop was aimed at looking at how to grow food in small urban spaces - from balconies to window ledges and windowsills.

The World of the Welsh Honey Bee Talk - Friday 5 May @ 1pm

Did you know that we have an Apiary with native Welsh black bees on our campus grounds?

This was a talk about the world of the Welsh honeybee from Selwyn Runnett and Peter Jenkins, members of BIBBA. Peter Jenkins manages our bees in a sustainable way.

These workshops were an opportunity to learn all about how we can be a little bit more greener in our day to day lives.
