What did you study at university, and what did you enjoy most about it?

I’m currently on an MA in Ancient History, but I studied a BA in Classical Civilisation in Lampeter for my undergrad. I think the thing I enjoy most about studying in Lampeter is the diversity in the way our lecturers teach and the obvious passion they have for their subjects, as well as the incredible support we receive throughout our studies.

What are your priorities for this year?

I have several priorities, especially concerning Student Experience in a post Covid-19 educational sector. I want to focus on a new mental health initiative, improving the physical and financial accessibility of our campus, green policy advancements and many, many more. However, I think its really important that students have an active and vocal role in the work I do this year, so if there is something you want me to work on please let me know!

What did your involvement with the SU look like before you became President?

My involvement with the SU before my role as Pres was mainly centred around sports and societies. I held exec positions in the Lampeter women’s rugby team, the Lampeter netball team and the Lampeter dance society since my second year of university, and as a result I am a big advocate for all sports and societies getting the most out of the SU to push forward onto bigger and better things. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can all achieve together going forward. I also took part in a few SU events such as Reclaim the Night as well as representing TSDSU at the NUS Wales and NUS Liberation conferences in 2019.

Do you have any advice for new students?

The amazing thing about university is you get out of it what you put in; aside from your grades, that’s also true for extra curricular activities. So, my advice would be if you have a passion for democracy, student representation, sports, liberation or championing the environment among many other things– Get involved! There are students on the campus, both new and returning, who have those same passions, and the sense of community on the Lampeter campus is both unique and inspiring. But if you want to hang out in your room and read, that’s cool too.
