The "Small Plant Project" is a planting scheme that will give all students the chance to grow some seeding from home. Sign up and you'll get a free delivery of soil and seeds to grow plants that will be beneficial to our pollinators and our mental and physical wellbeing.

The Small Plant was inspired by the popular "Big Plant" project which, unfortunately, couldn't happen this year due to pandemic restrictions. The project is part of the university's wider "Go Green Week" which will be happening next month.

Why should you get involved?

To improve your mental health...

Plants are renowned for their array of physical and mental health benefits; from boosting indoor air quality to relieving stress and anxiety.

To boost environmental awareness at UWTSD...

It's an opportunity to engage in a project that hopes to increase awareness of environmental and biodiversity issues, provide the opportunity for engagement in the wider student community and involve as many cross-campus UWTSD students of all demographics.

To win big in our Sunflower competition...

Plant a sunflower (sunflower seeds will be included in your small plant kit) and get growing. Post a pic of you planting or growing your seedling on May 1st, World Sunflower day and tag it with #UWTSDSULittleBigPlant and you'll be entered to win a universal gardening voucher.

I'm sold, how do I get a Small Plant Kit?

It's easy. Sign up here before Friday 9th April and we'll send you a Small Plant Kit for FREE!.

Sign Up for the Small Plant

Your kit will be posted between the 12th and 26th of April. Limited availability of 50.

Your kit will include 'Bee & Butterfly', 'Wild Card' and Sunflower seeds. Soil disks and a growing guide to help your plants flourish.

All you need to do is find a suitable container. Why not get creative and re-use something from around the house? Think old wellies, teapots and even old tin cans - much better than your basic (and less environmentally friendly) plastic pots.

This is a wonderful little project that we are really passionate about and we hope that you will be too! No matter what campus you're based on, if you're at home, what type of student you are, or whether you even have a garden, you can get involved! For the Love of Bees we really encourage you take part!
