This year at TSDSU we are pleased and proud to re-launch our Raising and Giving (or RAG) campaign! RAG is the student led, fundraising branch of the SU whose mission is to make fundraising fun and accessible to all students, whilst also raising lots of money for some great causes.

This years official RAG charities are close to the hearts of many students up and down the country.

The first is mental health charity Mind, whose mission is ‘to provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem’. There are local Mind services near to all of our campuses, for more information please visit the Mind website http://www.mind.org.uk/

Our second official SU charity is Welsh Hearts, whose vision is ‘A future where nobody in Wales dies prematurely from heart disease.’ They do this by providing defibrillators and CPR training in Wales.

Lastly we are supporting a second heart charity- Cardiac Risk in the Young (C-R-Y). CRY promotes and develops heart screening programmes and funds medical research, as well as  supporting young people diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions. C-R-Y is close to the hearts of the sabbatical officer team, as well as many TSD students after the sudden sad passing of TSD Swansea basketball captain, and friend to many, Dominic Newton. Our aim is to raise enough money for CRY to have a screening at one of our campus’ to possibly help save the lives of our students and the local community.

We have also been raising and giving in many other ways! This year we have taken part in the Mr X Christmas campaign where students and staff of TSD have bought presents for over 300 children in the local community!

So far the TSDSU RAG campaign has raised £4440.15 for charities including Mind, CRY, Macmillan, Huntington's Disease Associations and Guide Dogs Cymru. A big thanks to all the students who have already been involved in this, whether that was by petting a dog, making yummy baked goods, taking part in a fun run, buying a raffle ticket or playing basketball. We couldn’t have done this without you!

There are lots of fantastic events to get involved in during the rest of the year including….

Lost

(we take you 100 miles away and you have to get back whilst spending no money!)

Sports clothing collection

Bake sales

Valentine's day treats

We would really love these events to be run by students so please let us know if you would like to get involved in running any RAG event at all!
