A Students’ Union is an amazing job for have, to make a huge positive impact on students is extremely rewarding. UWTSD Students’ Union is made up of an incredible team who work together to be innovative to benefit the student experience.

Everyone was very welcoming when I joined in 2020, and it only got better as I got to know everyone. The staff here genuinely care about their work and put 100% into everything that they do, whilst also supporting each other to reach whatever goal we have.

There are so many development opportunities from line management skills, to leadership to appropriate qualifications. I have completed my Level 3 ILM and have almost completed my Level 4 ILM with the support of my manager.

It’s a fast paced job, but I have not met an organisation so supportive of their team as this one with weekly 1-2-1s with line managers, employee assistance scheme, staff development days and more. You’ll truly feel at home here, whatever campus you’re based at.

A Students’ Union is a fantastic place to work. There is such variety to our work, and we are always trying something new. I think that is my favourite thing about working for an SU, the range is something you won’t get to do to the same scale in other jobs. UWTSD SU is an especially interesting place to work due to the unique context of the University. It’s a great place to challenge yourself in a new environment if you are interested in SU’s or Higher Education.

I support students who might be going through a difficult time and help them find solutions to the challenges they’re facing, which is immensely rewarding – I finish nearly every working day with a real sense of achievement. I’ve had opportunities to gain qualifications in mental health and advice work, and to develop my Welsh language skills. Working both from home and across the different campuses, there is so much variety to the role, and the whole SU team are such a supportive, encouraging and (above all) fun group of people to work with.
