Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) for 2024/25 was held on Wednesday February 19, 2025. The AGM was chaired by Helena Cuciureanu, your Union Chairperson, and attended by students across all our campuses, both in person and online. Your presidents, Maria Dinu, Natalie Beard, and Rhobyn Grant attended, gave reports, and provided overviews of accounts, affiliations, and the recently completed Democracy Review. The Democracy Review is a piece of work carried out consulting students, staff, and the wider Higher Education sector, to ensure that students are being represented in the best way possible by their sabbatical officers and part-time officers. This was brought to the AGM for students to have their say in how they wish to be represented.
Each elected President wrote and presented a report about their work so far this academic year, talking about what they have achieved so far and what they are continuing to work on. This also was a chance for students to ask questions on their reports and work, and share concerns around their student experience.
The Sabbatical Officers shared an overview of the Students’ Union’s accounts, as well as current affiliations.
The Democracy Review is a piece of work carried out over the past year and a half, consulting students, holders of officer posts, Union and University staff, as well as research from the wider Higher Education sector to review how to best represent students at UWTSD on a full-time and part-time basis.
Four Sabbatical Officer structure options were presented at the AGM, and three Part-Time Officer structure options.
Students voted and selected the second option as their preferred way of being represented: 1 Group President, 1 Birmingham and London President, 1 Cardiff and Swansea President, and 1 Carmarthen President.
Within the Democracy Review, one key factor highlighted in all feedback is the importance of ensuring there is representation across all UWTSD campuses, and this is reflected in the decision that each campus will have five Part-Time Officer roles, regardless of which option they choose.
Students voted and selected the first option as their preferred way of being represented: clearly define which five options are available per campus of liberation roles.
The AGM minutes are a recorded account of everything that happened during the meeting; it covers reports presented, questions asked, and votes taken.
