Blue January, How Zaeem raised £86 for Mind Swansea

Wednesday 29-01-2020 - 16:53

Introduction:

Before Christmas, Zaeem Gulammamodo (Swansea campus Volunteering and RAG part time officer) approached the SU about doing some fundraising for a local mental health charity, Mind Swansea.

It was decided to run a collection themed around Blue Monday, also known as the most depressing day of the year.

Here’s a round-up of what happened and what Zaeem had to say about the whole campaign.

Zaeem G:

Blue Monday is the title given to the day that is *apparently* the most depressing day of the year, it occurs on the third Monday of January (this year it was on the 20th January). It’s easy to see why moods can be low at this time of year, Christmas is over, we go back to work/education, the weather is miserable and for us students, exams!

I wanted to do something to combat this potentially difficult time, whilst raising money for Swansea Mind, a local mental health charity.

We headed down to SA1 campus on Tuesday 21st January (not Monday, I know, exams got in the way!) with a tray full of blue themed sweets and a charity bucket. We asked students and staff to donate what they could in return for a sweet treat.

Amazingly, we raised over £100 in under an hour, minus initial costs, that’s £86 going straight to Swansea Mind.

I would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who donated on the day as well as the team at TSDSU who helped out.

Until the next one – See you soon!

Goodnight and goodbye
