We’re looking for 2 Carmarthen students to join the SU team as Student Voice Reps for the academic year 2020-21.
1 x Institute of Management and Health
1 x Wales Institute of Science and Art
Student Voice Reps are a valuable and important asset to students, the SU, and the wider University community. They are responsible for liaising with Course Reps and identifying trends in student feedback, and channelling this at an Institute-level to make real, tangible changes. They have a platform to suggest ideas and raise concerns with the University at a senior level, and are therefore a vital mechanism for keeping your student voice at the heart of University decision-making.
If you are an active and engaged student, this is a perfect opportunity for you.
As a Student Voice Rep, you will directly feed into Institute Boards, and will work alongside the SU’s Campus and Group Presidents to make sure the University is constantly thinking of student input when it makes changes that affect you. Not only is this an opportunity to be actively involved in shaping your experiences for you and your fellow students, you will also become a valued member of your SU team. We will be here to support you throughout your year in post.
By putting yourself forward for this role, you will develop wider networks within the University community, meeting students and staff from other campuses. It will also benefit your skills development in communication, advocacy and teamwork, to name just a few. The role will be a fantastic addition to your CV to attract future employers and institutions.
Here’s what some of our previous Student Voice Reps have said:
“I have enjoyed being able to represent my fellow students at a higher level, such as at institute board, and making sure their voices and queries are heard. I have also enjoyed hearing about the different courses within this institute and understanding how they all work from their course reps, as well as being in contact with other Student Voice Reps from different campuses and being able to discuss similar or different situations that span across campuses.”
“I have enjoyed being able to be involved more with trying to help students, working with the Students Union, as well as being able to vote in the big SU meetings and attend those meetings and have a say.”
If you are a UWTSD student and are passionate about making positive changes to benefit the University community, we want to hear from you. We offer all our Reps a 3-part bursary (£150 per term; total of £450 a year) as a little something to reward you for your hard work and dedication to the UWTSD student experience.
Experience of being a Course Rep is desirable, but not essential. You are only eligible to become a Student Voice Rep for the Institute you belong to. Student Voice Reps will be determined through an interview process, and we’ll be looking to appoint a team with a breadth of experience, studying at different campuses and at different levels.
For more information or to apply for this opportunity, email Ffion (email@example.com). In your application, you should outline the reasons why you’d like to be a Student Voice Rep, as well as some ideas for changes you’d like to see, or methods you would use to improve engagement with students. Please set the subject of the e-mail as 'I want to be a Student Voice Rep' and remember to let us know which Institute you belong to.
