Why are Bees so important?

Every day, we bask in the beauty that the world has to offer. From the tranquil skies and serene seas to lush vegetations that capture the glory of nature in its purest form. These are some of the "simple things" that would have us stop, breathe and be at peace. Rarely do we stop to think about all that contributes to the picturesque sceneries we so enjoy. An often overlooked, yet incredibly important piece in the circle of life are the small, busy buzzing bees. Yes, these winged insects zooming around us are quite important to the preservation of our ecosystem, but why?

You see, bees assist in pollination; this is the process that helps to provide us with the food we love to eat. When bees fly from flower to flower in search of food, they collect pollen on their bodies. It is this pollen that falls amongst other plants on their travels that help to fertilize and create the sweet succulent fruit and tasty veggies and even produces more of the radiant flowers that fill our gardens. Here in Lampeter the springtime for many, is welcomed with open arms as the people enjoy being engulfed in the healing splendor of the fragrant flora and fauna that fills their community. The UWTSD campus located at the heart of the town, is a central point where anyone can gather and indulge in the floral haven.

Apart from pollination, bees are vital in feeding other animals, specifically those in the animal kingdom that feed on nuts and berries, such as birds. They further assist in the agricultural and economic development of countries. This is because, bees pollinating plants promote crop growth that can benefit the farmers and countries on the whole, by providing food for consumption and exportation.

Bees promote sustainable living amongst communities. They are more than tiny, winged insects, that manufacture the rich and succulent, nutrient filled sweetener honey. They are a key source necessary in the sustenance of all life. By continuing to plant seeds, grow exuberant gardens and avoiding the use of harmful chemicals, we help to save not just the bees but all that is life.
