We hope your studies have been going well so far!

We’ve been working over the past few months to ensure students feel supported throughout their academic journey. To continue this support, Students’ Union Advice will be running pre-assessment pop-ups at our Birmingham and London sites to help students ensure their work is ‘Fit to Submit.’

These pop-ups will be a great chance to meet the team, and discuss any queries you might have in the run-up to the assessment hand-in.

We’ll also be introducing our new laptop stickers to help remind you of the steps you need to take before uploading your work.

UPLOAD Stickers

Have I submitted my work correctly? With assessments coming up, this might be a question you ask yourself - We're here to help make sure you've gone through all the important steps to have a smooth submission.

Our Advice Service have put together a handy acronym that will help you remember the important steps to go through while submitting your assignments- remember: UPLOAD

U - Understand the assignment requirements

Make sure to read through what you need to do through the assignment and what will need to be submitted; it's easy to assume from past assignments, but every course is unique and so are the submissions. If you find yourself unsure or confused by the assignment, contact your lecturer as soon as possible, they'll be able to explain in more detail or go through your questions with you.

P - Proofread your work

Make sure to proofread your work, go through it carefully - have you said everything you wanted to? Have you answered the questions? Have you corrected any spelling errors? Are you within the word count? Have you referenced correctly? This is your last chance to make sure you're happy with everything and correct any mistakes before submitting.

L - Label your file with the correct name

We all name our files random things 'doc 1', 'assignment', 'final project' but it’s easy to get files confused when you’ve not named then correctly. Make sure you don’t get your draft work confused with your final copy!

O - Organise your files into an easy-to-access folder

This is to help both you remain as organised as possible especially as you’re completing assignments throughout the year. This keeps everything in the right place, easy to find and navigate and allows you to easily and quickly select your files when uploading to the submission link. Top tip: use your university OneDrive account to store your files in one place.

A - Attach the correct file to the correct link

This goes hand in hand with Labelling and Organising your files - don't upload 'assignment_final_final' when the most up to date file is 'assignment_new final' - remove the confusion, make sure your files are labelled correctly for the assignment and make sure, especially if you have multiple assignments due, that you're attaching the correct file to the correct link. If you’re not sure which link you need to use to submit your file, contact the Assessments Team for further support and guidance.

D - Double-check before submitting

So, you've done everything and are ready to submit your work - double check, go through these steps, go through your work, make sure everything is ready, and if you notice that you have made a mistake after submitting (make sure you've double checked your TurnItIn receipt) contact your lecturer and the Assessments Team as soon as possible.
