February marks LGBTQ+ History Month in the UK. There’s lots happening across the Union. We hope you join us in the celebrations and reflections by getting involved.
We started off the month with a club night in Lampeter to celebrate the 10 anniversary of the legalisation of same-sex marriage in the UK. It was filled with great music a load of singing and dancing and a toast at midnight to celebrate.
Union Spotlight puts the focus on one of our clubs or societies and what they are up to. This month, we’ll be highlighting and celebrating our Lampeter-based LGBTQ+ society. They are a very active society, constantly planning what they want to do next, from club nights in Xtension to make-up sessions with Give It A Go they have something for everyone to enjoy and take part in. Their Union Spotlight will be coming out super soon, so keep an eye out on our socials for that.
We’ve teamed up with the LGBTQ+ Society in Lampeter to host a make-up lesson with local make-up artist Jackie Jones, a fully qualified make-up artist. This workshop is open for everyone of all abilities to come and learn different make-up techniques to get you ready for every occasion
We are a democratic organisation, led by students for students. Nominations in our Student Elections are open now, including our Part-time LGBT+ Officers (Open Space), LGBT+ Officers (Women’s Space), and Gender Identity Officers.
Wearing a badge helps communicate your pronouns and raises awareness of gender identity. We are doing a free enamel pronouns badge giveaway. We have nine options available, including Neo pronouns and Welsh variants.
