Hi all and Happy Pride month 🏳️🌈
June is Pride month, it's a month dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ+ communities.
Pride is about reaffirming the values of equality, acceptance, dignity and increasing awareness of the LGBTQ+ community. Pride is a very personal thing. For some, that means putting on all the colours and going to one of the marches. To others, it's simply about feeling comfortable in themselves. However you want to celebrate, you should be proud of who you are!
Although we may not be able to live up to the amazing marches and celebrations that usually take place. We hope that our efforts will allow anyone in the community who is feeling isolated to get in contact with other LGBTQ+ students, join the student-led liberation network and just enjoy Pride even if it is from home.
What are we putting on?
Free Pride Packs
We will be giving out 50 packs first-come-first-served that will include:
- A mask or flag of your choice.
- Eco-friendly body glitter.
- Pride-themed Stickers.
- Pride-themed temporary Tattoos.
- A personalised postcard with helpful links and info.
Inspirational Talk
We will also be offering all students the opportunity to attend a motivational and inspiring talk from a UWTSD lecturer who is part of the LGBTQ+ community and will cover the topic of Pride and Queer activism.
Coming Soon
Film Night
Lastly, we want the community to come together; how can we do this? We will be hosting a Pride-themed Film night on the evening of the 30th of June.
