So, TSDSU are looking to hire a new administrator? Here’s why you should apply:
Way back when I was in my final year as an Outdoor Adventure Education student in Carmarthen, I was also a part-time administrator in the SU! I absolutely loved the role and without a doubt would recommend any student to apply – here’s why:
TSDSU is a great place to work. It’s full of enthusiastic, energetic individuals and every day is a new challenge. When I was an admin, I could spend one day helping out the SU Officers with their campaigns, the next supporting students who come into the office with enquiries and the next helping to pull together events such as the Challenge Cup or Freshers! It was fun, rewarding and something very different to working in the shops and bars of Carmarthen.
The role was totally flexible around my study. As an Outdoor Eddie, my lectures weren’t always the same weekly and the team at TSDSU were really helpful in helping me set my workload around my timetable and my assessments. I was able to take some extra time when I knew I had deadlines coming up and when I was away with my course.
In addition to this, having a guaranteed monthly salary was really helpful in giving me peace of mind throughout my last year of study. The salary covered the vast majority of my expenses each month (even with a very hungry dog!) which was one less thing to worry about.
I’ve no doubt that if I wasn’t an admin, then I wouldn’t have had the confidence to run for election as an SU Officer, which put me on the path I’m on now, fighting for all students in Wales on a national level. Now that’s not everyone’s cup of tea, for sure, but being an administrator helped to give me the skills I needed to make that next step, whilst also giving me peace of mind about money and a fun job alongside my degree.
I couldn’t recommend the role enough to anyone, especially students. TSDSU are a great bunch of wholesome people, so if you’re looking for a flexible, fun and rewarding job to go alongside your studies then look no further! Have a chat with your SU and put in an application. You won’t regret it!
