According to Student Minds, one in four students do not know how to access well-being support - are you one of them? We want to change this for the better and ensure UWTSD students know all about the support available to them. That's why we're launching a brand new awareness-raising campaign.
Natalie, your Swansea Campus President, has been working with the university to ensure the well-being service is as accessible as possible. Part of this is raising awareness of the well-being service.
To do this, Natalie and the well-being service have launched a new sticker-based campaign. There are five stickers, each with a different message, but all link students to well-being support. The Union and University teams will be putting them up all around campus - this is what Natalie has to say:
"This May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and as part of my 2023/2024 manifesto, I pledged to make well-being support more accessible. Today, I’m launching a campaign to raise awareness, and part of this is a series of brand-new stickers, where students can find the support they need with just a scan of a QR code.
When I was a student, there were times when I struggled with my mental health - but I was lucky enough to get the right support from the amazing well-being team.
I wanted to ensure students knew all about the well-being support available, so I launched "Natter with Nat" - a monthly social catch-up between students and myself.
Following this, I am working with the well-being service and other university departments to launch a series of "well-being stickers" to help students access support - the stickers feature a QR code and link to support.
According to Student Minds, 1 in 4 students surveyed would not know where to go to get mental health support at university if they needed it (www.studentminds.org.uk/uploads/3/7/8/4/3784584/student_minds_insight_briefing_feb23.pdf).
Here at UWTSD, we are lucky enough to have various mental health support staff, including counsellors - these stickers aim to help students access the support they need as quickly as possible. The university also has self-help tools, and useful information and provides access to 24/7 support via the student assistance programme."
