We’re thrilled to share some exciting sustainability news – the hard work of our Members, Officers, and Staff has been officially recognised! We’ve been awarded a "Very Good" rating and won the "Most Improved" award in the 2023-24 Green Impact Students' Unions Awards from SOS-UK (Students' Organising for Sustainability).

SOS-UK is a student-led charity focusing on sustainability, working with students to be at the forefront of positive environmental change. We were one of 32 Students' Union's to get involved in the Green Impact Students' Unions, which helps educate SU Staff, Officers, and students about sustainability and social responsibility and empowers us to take action.

We're so proud of our Members, Officers, and Societies - it's their hard work that's been recognised. Our campaign for period dignity was highlighted by SOS-UK, which provided a range of free period products for those who need them. And a special shoutout to the Swansea Environmental Society for organising beach cleans, litter picks, a campus blackout event, and environmental documentary screenings across the year too.

Head of Membership Services, Géraldine Smits, presented our achievements to GISU, she says

"It has been such a rewarding journey and experience to learn about all the sustainability efforts made at UWTSD SU this year! The work that SOS-UK does with their Green Impact Students' Unions scheme is a great way to record what we have done, and also get to see how well we have done. Our members have been dedicated and driven, from litter picks to planting schemes to lights-out campaigns and more. Maintaining a standard of 'Very Good' and even receiving 'Most Improved' was more than I'd expected, and such a lovely surprise. Thank you so much to the continued hard work of my colleagues at UWTSD SU, as they made it easy to have so much to shout about when it comes to sustainability!"
