We’re moving locations in Carmarthen!

Monday 14-09-2026 - 15:00

Overview

  1. We’re moving locations. From Saturday 19th September, you’ll find us in our space on the first floor of the T&L building.
  2. Freshers Fair is still happening in the old SU space on Monday 21st September.
  3. The new SU space includes a bigger social space, is closer to where you study, and includes a student kitchen.
  4. Student Groups will have easier access to their storage cupboard.

We’re moving locations in Carmarthen! We’re excited to share that we are relocating from our current SU space to a new home in the T&L building.

We love our current building - it brings back lots of memories for us; however, over the last few years it has struggled to keep up with the changing student demographic and is also showing signs of needing to retire. The building has been baking warm in the summer and freezing cold in the winter (we’ve even had to shut for a while over the last few years as pipes have frozen).

We’ve known that we’ve needed to move for some time; however, the University has not been able to find suitable locations for consideration until August 2026. In early August, the Carmarthen Campus President and SU staff were given a tour of all of the potential locations, and T&L was the most suitable for our needs. We are grateful that colleagues have been able to find us a space to move into, with the move approved in the first week of September.

What does it mean?

  1. It means you can still find all of our student-facing services in one place, just like before.
  2. We’ll have a bigger student social study space, including a student kitchen!
  3. We’ll be moving things like the pool tables and ping pong table into our new home too.
  4. For the first time, we will be based in a building where students study, and we’re over the moon that it will be easier than ever to find us.
  5. Storage for student groups like MedSoc will become a lot easier. Committee members will be able to access the equipment via a swipe card (rather than having to sign out a key). More information is coming soon to committee members.
  6. It does mean that our nighttime events will be changing location.

Nighttime Events

We’re still working with the University on a plan for what nighttime events might look like; however, they will be in the Merlin rather than in our own building.

It’s exciting that we get to run events closer to halls of residence. Meaning those who live on campus have less far to walk. Whilst it is sad to say goodbye to Y Clwb and Y Llofft, they’ve served generations of students, and it’s time to turn the lights off as we close the doors on our nightclub.

Students are choosing to spend less time and money in our venues (we’ve run a loss for the last few years), so relocating our activities is just the breath of fresh air we need to deliver for you.

Our partnership with the University will mean things look different. Make sure to share your feedback on what events you’d like to see; we can’t promise you every idea will be delivered, but we’re open to your thoughts.

We’ll keep working with the University and share more details as the year progresses. There will still be other events and activities taking place with your Carmarthen-based team. Keep an eye on our social media and website for all the fun things that the Carmarthen Campus President has planned.

Last Event: Freshers Fair

The last event to be held in our building will be the Freshers Fair on Monday 21st September. Come along and say goodbye to our old home. Our offices will be empty, but the fair will take place in Y Clwb.

We know there will be plenty of questions, and we’re here to answer them as best we can as we settle into our new home. For now, we wanted to share that we’re moving and that some changes come along with that move. It's all happened quite quickly, but the space is available, and we want to get settled as soon as we can.

The existing SU building will become vacant as it will no longer be in use by either the SU or the University. From Saturday 19th September, come and find us on the first floor of the T&L building.
