Wellness Week

10 - 14 May 2021

by Michaella Batten

On my first day in Wales after moving from Canada, I had no idea what to respond when a very polite man at my local health food shop asked me ‘you alright?’ I stood there, jetlagged and awkward, wondering why someone would ask such an intrusive question to a stranger at 8am on a Tuesday. Since living here for almost three years now, I finally understand what ‘you alright’ means– it’s just a stand-in for the Canadian, ‘hey, how’s it goin’ bud?’

But today, I’m asking you: hey, are you alright? Are you doing okay? How has your mental health been this past year? Are you looking after yourself? I think we can all agree that this year has had a huge (mostly negative) impact on our collective wellbeing, which is why we’ve been working hard to plan...

An Entire Week Of Events

Yes, you read that right, a whole week of virtual and in-person events to make you feel good.

So, what kind of events will be included in Wellness Week, you ask? I’m glad you asked, imaginary-inquisitive-student. There will be a guided meditation session, seed planting, a clay workshop to make a pot for that little seedling, a wellness walk and litter pick, two fifteen-minute fitness sessions, a night of crafts and cartoons, and so much more! You can sign up for all the events here:

Free Wellness Pack

But, Michaella (that’s me), how will we afford all of this? Where will we get all these supplies?

Again, I’m glad you asked equally-broke-student-loan-owner! Because I’m pleased to say, it’s FREE! Yes, all of it! You just have to sign up and give us your address so we can post you a special Wellness Pack with all the items you need to participate in the events. The sign-up link is here:

We will also be sending out an email soon with all the details you need to participate in the online events, so keep an eye on your inbox. We will be posting more details on our social media as well, so be sure to follow us on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter.

As always, if you have any questions at all, or just want to chat about health and well-being, feel free to drop me an email at michaella.batten@uwtsd.ac.uk. I can’t wait to hear from you!
