Who Are Your Inspire Interns?

Friday 02-06-2023 - 16:13

As you might have seen, we have been posting about the “Inspire Intern Project”. There have been events, trips and workshops all about sustainability and becoming a little bit greener.

But who are the people behind what you’ve seen?

We reached out to our Inspire Interns to do a little reflection piece on who they are, what they have been up to and why they wanted to get involved in the project.

So, we’ll pass it over to the Inspire Interns!

What’s your name and what is your role in the Inspire Intern Project?
Hi, my name is Anastasiia and I’m the Events and Campaigns intern in Lampeter.

What’s your star sign?
Leo

Tell us about what you got up to.
I have worked closely with other interns on Lampeter to help them with their events and workshops.

I have also helped launch the art exhibition on Lampeter Campus; we have been presenting art pieces from Lampeter locals and students. The theme of the exhibition is Mother Earth / Hiraeth.

The variety of artworks is huge: painting, sculpture, ceramics, carvings (wood, stone), photography, poetry, animation, and so on.

Why did you run for this internship?
I was interested in working closely with the university and the local community to contribute to our small community. Additionally, it's an excellent opportunity to get some project management experience.

What’s your name and what is your role in the Inspire Intern Project?
I am Debby Mercer, and I am the Tir Glas intern.

Tell us about what you got up to.
I have managed to do a bunch of stuff for this project; I have run a needle felting workshop with the wellbeing service.

I held an exhibition on wool for my dissertation which ties into other projects for the Tir Glas position.

As a group, the INSPIRE interns worked together to put on workshops about reusable food wraps and eco dyeing to upcycle clothes and more, all for Go Green week in May. At the end of May I held a Wool Forum in the local community, supported by Tir Glas, to facilitate communication between wool producers and wool users. The Wool Forum is my big project, and I hope to continue working with Tir Glas after my internship is over.

Why did you run for this internship?
I ran for this internship because my life has been focused on sustainability for a long time and I have a passion for wool as a sustainable, renewable, and underused resource.

What's your name, and what internship are you part of?
Redhwan Al-amri; I am part of the Inspire Internship - Events and Campaigns intern for Swansea.

What’s your star sign?
Cancer

Tell us about what you got up to.
I have run an awareness campaign for the importance of using coffee grounds in gardening, and have written a blog post all about the benefits coffee has for your garden.

I have promoted sustainable practices on the UWTSD campuses (Swansea) and helped home users/gardeners by providing them with free coffee grounds which are collected and repackaged from all the cafeterias in UWTSD Swansea campuses.

Why did you run for this internship?
I believe in promoting sustainability as our planet can only produce a finite number of resources 'from food to water'. We only have one Earth and are utterly dependent on it for our survival and well-being.

What's your name, and what internship are you part of?
My name is Samantha Measor, and I am the Housing Diverse Wildlife intern.

What’s your star sign?
I am a Capricorn, which is great for me because I love goats.

Tell us about what you got up to.
I have run a workshop to make rainwater collectors. These are displayed around the back of the ABN accommodation blocks. The water we collect will be used to water our plants in accommodation.

I have also made hedgehog houses that were placed around campus. These should hopefully encourage and protect the hedgehogs.

Why did you run for this internship?
I decided to run for this internship because I have a passion for nature and animals and wanted to help the university with sustainability to help encourage and look after wildlife.
