This evening, at the annual National Union of Students’ Awards evening attended by Students’ Unions across the UK, TSDSU was awarded the Education Award for our work on the additional costs faced by students during their studies. Their research has been recognised by NUS as “an outstanding example of students’ unions at their best” and has already generated positive benefits for UWTSD students, including creating new bursaries for students in 2017/18.

2016/17 Students’ Union Group President, Dan Rowbotham,  welcomed the award saying “the Students’ Union is delighted to receive recognition for our academic representation work. We believe that the core role of a Students’ Union is to ensure that students’ academic experience is always improving and we are proud that our work on the costs of study will have a positive impact for our students. This has been an important project for our team over the last year and whilst it’s lovely to win awards, our true measure of success is the number of students that will benefit from this work”.

 

The Students’ Union were awarded a similar prize at the NUS Wales awards back in March, and this is the first time that the Union has received a UK-wide award for its work. We have already begun work on our next project, the theme of which is ‘course organisation’.
