We are supporting students through the Cost of Living crisis. Together with the University, we are working hard to support students as the costs of living increase - from food and travel to rent and utilities.
We've created our Cost of Living hub to help you find support and stay informed of developments. We cover ways to access funding, where to find advice, and other ways we're supporting and representing students.

Ben Lake has given us a template letter that the Government has made to help student tenants who believe they are entitled to support with their energy bill. This letter can be sent to your landlord.

Shelter England 's Cost of Living Hub
You can get a bowl of filling and warming soup and a bread roll for just £1 from University canteens.
Food hubs give students access to store cupboard foods - you can help yourself to any food that you need. You can also make donations to the food hub to help out a fellow student in a bit of need.

The University has agreed to rent-freeze for the highest quantity rooms in University-owned student accommodation for 2023/24 - this means that rent next year will be the same as this year.
In the first term alone, we have run over 30 Give It A Go events across all UWTSD campuses. We want students to have amazing experiences, make new friends, and feel connected to their campus - that's why we launched a supercharged Give It A Go with loads of exciting and low-cost events (with some being free too).

This term alone, we've given away over £2,000 worth of teas, coffees, cakes, and snacks to students at our Pop-up Unions across all our campuses.
We run 21 free events for students to enjoy across all our campuses to mark UWTSD's bicentenary.
Our clubs and socieities can access grants upto £500 to help with the costs of activities, trips, equipment, promotion and more.
We're supporting student as best we can, but further meaningful action needs to come from our Governments. That's why your Union Presidents have written to Members of Parliament and Members of Senedd on your behalf.
We launched over 30 paid internships - this is the most we've ever done! Each internship comes with a £1,000 bursary for 10-15 hours work a month.
All our student interships and jobs pay inline with the Real Living Wage.

Together, the Union and University are working hard to support students. Now's the time for our Governments to take swift and meaningful action to support students through the Cost of Living Crisis. We've written to Members of Parliament and Members of Senedd asking them to offer additional support.
Cost of living research from the NUS tells us that almost a third of students surveyed are left with just £50 a month after paying their rent and bills - with 52% of students spending less on food and 68% no longer able to afford course materials. You can sign the NUS campaign as they ask Government for tailored support.
