Voting

Our elections use the Single Transferable Voting system. This allows our members to cast their vote by rating candidates on their preference.

Voters can rate as many or as few candidates as they want, and can even vote to Re-Open Nominations, which restarts the election process.

To get elected, a candidate must have over 50% of the votes – this is known as the quota. Voting is done in rounds; if in the first round, no-one reaches the quota, then the candidate with the lowest vote is eliminated and their vote shared between the remaining candidates based on the voter’s preference – this is repeated until a winner is declared.
