Actions for SU
Students’ Union to oppose any proposal to charge students to park on any UWTSD site. For the SU to work with the University to trial effective, sustainable travel and work to reduce the number of cars on our campuses.
Progress
To date, no serious re-attempt to establish charged parking permits. There was a recent review ready for next year and the scheme put forward for consideration by University SMT included free student-parking. All feed-in from the SU into that proposal included free student parking as our number one priority. Additional spaces in Carmarthen secured and also being sought out.

This past September the University considered charging students for parking permits, and this was narrowly avoided following a co-ordinated campaign of student dissatisfaction and protest.
The Students’ Union accepts that on-site parking is a challenge on some University sites due to the volume of staff and students and the number of available spaces and is committed to working with the University to find sensible solutions to manage on-site parking.
The Students’ Union will not accept any solution that requires students to pay for a permit, and will oppose any solution which includes students paying for parking on any University site.
The Students’ Union should also work with the University to trial effective, sustainable, methods of travel and work to reduce the volume of cars on campus.
