In order to ensure that campus and community remain safe, it’s paramount that there are effective and appropriate systems in place that allow for the reporting and handling of harmful situations. In order to do this, I propose that a specialised reporting system be put in place with-in the SU, containing separated report systems for different events and offenses such as harassment, assault, hate crimes etc. These systems would need to be easily accessible to every student. To ensure this accessibility, I also suggest that access points are kept in clear view on the SU website and potentially on posters around SU buildings that explicitly state where and what the procedures are. It’s also extremely important that these systems are detailed and every step of the system is explained to ensure that people are aware of how their grievances will be dealt with/ what progress has been made.
