I have had a brilliant time walking the dogs through the TSDSU volunteering opportunity scheme, I have really enjoyed getting the chance to help out an amazing charity that looks after a range of animals that no longer have homes.
I feel that by simply helping out by walking the dogs It has given me something to look forward too during such a busy time at uni, it’s made me feel good about helping the charity and getting to spend time with the dogs and being able to give them attention.
I feel this opportunity has given me the chance to not only broaden my CV but to make connections through the charity that hopefully I can still work with once I graduate which is something I hope will be possible.
I think it’s good for the charity and the dogs that we are able to go up and help as it helps the charity with their work load and the dogs get lots of attention and long walks, I feel that both the dogs and the charity enjoys us helping out.
I would personally encourage everyone to go and volunteer it is such a rewarding experience and you really get to make a connection with the animals and the people who look after them day in and day out it really is such a fun experience and gives you the chance to make new friends!
It’s so easy to become a part of it, you simply go on Facebook and join the TSDSU dog walkers page which all the information gets shared on but if you don’t have Facebook you can email andrew.g.jones@uwtsd.ac.uk who will give you everything you need!
The first time you go, you get an induction into the site and fill out some paperwork which then means you can go anytime you want, you then get shown the dog walking paths and you get to play with them, it’s such a good opportunity as you don’t need to be very sporty to get involved and you get to make a dogs day by simply spending a small amount of time with them.
