UWTSD students can now display their pronouns on Microsoft Teams at UWTSD. In another meaningful student-led win, Taya Gibbons (Group President), has worked with the university’s IT department to enable this feature at UWTSD.

The option to allow users to add pronouns has been present in Microsoft Teams since early 2023. With Taya’s campaigning, the university has now switched this feature on at UWTSD - meaning students (and staff) can now add their pronouns to their Microsoft Teams profile.

The ability to display pronouns is a simple yet incredibly empowering feature - it assists individuals in communicating their pronouns and helps increase awareness of gender identity.

“I think it is an amazing win to finally have this feature turned on. I think it is important that both our staff and students have the right to express themselves with whatever pronouns they wish. Being referred to as something you don't identify with can be really challenging, so finally allowing this feature across Outlook and Microsoft Teams, so that students can participate if they wish is imperative. I hope that all staff now understand this feature is on and take the time to get to know their students. Big Student Win”

How to display your pronouns

Displaying your pronouns in Microsoft Teams is optional. Here’s a step-by-step guide for students who want to show theirs.

  1. Signed into Microsoft Teams and click on your profile picture in the top right corner of the screen.
  2. This will open a small profile panel, from here, click on the section containing your name and email address.
  3. This will open a bigger profile overview. In the top left of this panel, under your name, there is a “+ pronouns” button
  4. By clicking this you can enter your pronouns and they will display on your profile
