What was the vibe of this group?
Mandarin is widely spoken across all of China, Singapore, and lots of diasporas all over the world, it is an important language in the global economy, and is increasingly important in international business. This society wanted to help students learn Mandarin to help to promote understanding between different cultures and foster relationships between people. It is amazing when you can speak another’s language!
They wanted to offer a space for all students to socialise and share each others cultures whilst opening up those conversations through the learning of Chinese culture.
What activity did they run?
Their main activity was Chinese calligraphy sessions, but they did host some other actvities and planned to host more.
Such as learning basic Mandarin, sharing appreciation of popular literature & Cross-cultural activities/traditions such as Makeup, Hanfu Costume experiences and Paper Cutting Art. As well as promoting cultural immersion by attending Chinese markets, drinking traditional Chinese teas and eating traditional Chinese foods.
Where did they run activity?
They were able to us space at the Univeristy and Students' union.
For some actvity external venues were used.
Did they run socials?
Occasionally they held some recreational leisure socials such as walks and meeting for dinner etc.
Did they run trips?
This group didnt run any trips outside of thier usual activity but did discuss visting places in the UK with bigger Chinese markets.
