Start a Club or Society

To start a new club or society, there are four simple steps you need to follow - we'll run you through the process. 

 

1. Download and complete the forms
To get your group set up, you'll need to complete two forms - our New Student Group Form and our New Student Group Budget Forecast. These documents will go through the aims of your group and its financial forecast - make sure you fill in these documents carefully.

2. Submit your forms and get feedback
Once you've completed these documents, email them to suopportunities@uwtsd.ac.uk. A member of our Student Opportunities Coordinators will review them, give you feedback, and arrange a meeting. During this meeting, we'll discuss your ideas and plans. This is a great opportunity for you to ask questions and benefit from the expertise of the Opportunities Team.

 

3. Update your forms /  Exec Committee review
You will have a chance to update and amend your documents before they go to our Exec Committee - made up of Union Sabbatical Officers and Senior Management. They meet once a month and oversee the creation of new clubs or societies. They'll make sure;

  • That your group does not replicate an existing club or society. 
  • That your group does not propose any reputation risk to the Union and the wider community.
  • That your group's primary aims are for the benefit of UWTSD students.

The Exec Committee will decide on your proposal, and your Student Opportunities Coordinators will notify you of the outcome within 14 working days of the review.

 

4. Next Steps
If approved, your Student Opportunities Coordinator will discuss the next steps, which include creating a webpage, financial account, facility bookings, and more. It is then up to you to promote your page to gather interest from students and grow your membership.
