Lead a Group

Sports clubs and societies can have a huge impact on your student experience. They bring life to campus, give you the opportunity to meet amazing people, and provide a balance with academic work that can help with your studies.

Each year, some of our groups don’t manage to elect a committee. This means there is no one to lead the group, run activity, or organise opportunities. These groups get moved into our Lead a Group programme. The groups are fully set up, often with money in their accounts, ready for students to come along, pick them up, and start running them.

What happens next?

Meet Your SOC

Once we recieve your form we will get in contact with you.

WE being your campus Student Opportunities Coordinator or commonly reffered to as SOC.

Your SOC will send your form to the Union EXEC group, they will then look to approve your plans to lead a group.

Once approved, your SOC will book an in person or online meeting with you to discuss the next steps.

Core Documents

Complete the Core Documents

If approved, the group must complete the following core documents:

  • Constitution (the group's official rulebook)
  • Risk Assessment for regular/general activity
  • Budget Forecast (predicted financial plan)

Your SOC knows these like the back of thier hand, and as the group you are about to lead already existed...some information you could utilise already exists too!

Any support you need, please do ask your SOC via suopportunities@uwtsd.ac.uk

Promote and Go!

Promotion and recruitment for your new Student Group

After core documents are approved:

  • Your group will be added to the SU website ready for students to sign up as members!
  • You can start promoting and organising Pop-Ups and Taster sessions to attract new members.

Start Running Activities

Once membership prices are set and your webpage is live, your group is officially up and running!

Your SOC will teach you the do's and don'ts via training (we promise to try and make this quick, fun and painless). And then you can start planning actvity, events, socials and so on!

Finances

Group Finances

You will learn about group finances during training with your SOC.

Most Lead Groups have some sort of finances available from when the group was previosuly run. So your SOC will check this balance and let you know what you are working with.

However, if your group has no money or less than £50 we can look to give you a start up fund of £50, to get the ball rolling on activity.

Grant Funding

Each group can also request grant funding once a year, when you are an offical group you will recieve emails about this from SU Opportunities.
