SU Student Staff

This is an exciting new SU role that will be flexible to meet the needs of the organisation. The role will provide both support during student events over the course of the term, particularly during the Freshers Week. The role will support community activities within the SU building during the week and evenings. In addition, the role will be required to work in the SU bar up to 2 times a week between the hours of 20:00 - 02:00 providing an exceptional student service for our bar and club nights.

Variable weekly hours to suit the business need to be worked anytime between Monday to Sunday, 10:00 - 02:00.

Main Duties

  1. To initially be a generalist point of contact for students during the Welcome Week period.
  2. To support, engage and involve students in all types of union activity during this period and to be able to signpost effectively.  
  3. To be a friendly face and point of contact for students throughout the year at various events/activity. 
  4. To support, engage and involve students in all types of union activity and to be able to signpost effectively.
  5. Ongoing support on trips and activities throughout the year.
  6. Attending University open days
  7. To report for duty in a timely fashion in appropriate clothing or uniform as required
  8. To serve a range of beverages, including alcohol, to students 
  9. Accurately take payment for drinks / snacks sold
  10. Ensure the health and safety policies and procedures are adhered to at all times
  11. Record hours worked accurately
  12. Note if stock is low and inform the Venue and Events Manager
  13. Comply with all relevant legislation and licensing conditions, and complete necessary report logs, audit and cash systems, informing the Bar manager of any concerns or breeches in a timely manner. 
  14. To comply with the Student Union code of conduct and staff handbook guidelines
  15. To ensure that all reasonable care is taken for the health and safety of yourself, other employees, guests and other persons on the premises.
  16. Ensure that you present an appropriate image to customers, upholding and promoting all Students’ Union policies. 
  17. To report, and where possible take action on, incidents of accidents or damage.
  18. Provide excellent customer service at all times
  19. To ensure that all fire doors are closed and that fire routes are kept clear at all times.
  20. Support the bar operations in other areas of TSDSU and of the University as required.
  21. Effectively promote and advertise bar services activities and products 
  22. To attend any training as directed by your manager and to carry out any other reasonable request made by Management.
  23. The role holder can expect to work several events for the University as part of this role in order to further the spirit of partnership that exists between the SU and University.

General Duties

  1. To support, advise and assist elected student officers in the achievement of their aims and objectives.
  2. To discharge all relevant Health and Safety Responsibilities.
  3. To adhere to all relevant Students’ Union Policies and Procedures.
  4. To adhere to all relevant UWTSD Policies and Procedures.
  5. To be adaptable to change and have an ability to acquire new and relevant skills and knowledge by taking appropriate responsibility for own personal and professional development.
  6. To represent the Students’ Union at relevant professional networks, events and conferences.
  7. To support and promote the Students’ Union’s values whilst undertaking duties, demonstrating commitments to equality, bilingualism and democracy.
  8. To commit to working in a sustainable manner, engaging in the principals of Green Impact and seeking to reduce the SU’s environmental impact by acting as a role model and champion for sustainable working.
